Ian Wattley

I received this letter from Ian Wattley (ex Royal Navy). Although he is not a member of the Changi Association I feel that his contribution will be of great interest to our members, particularly the pictures of the wreath  laid on  our behalf  by our Chairman John Dicks.                                                                                                 Tony Holt, Webmaster

My wife and I earlier this year returned to Singapore and KRANJI War Memorial to visit her uncle’s grave. I took these photographs of the RAF CHANGI Association Wreaths, mainly in memory of my late father Chief Tech Al “Bert” D. WATTLEY BEM who served at both RAF SELETAR and RAF CHANGI between 1967 and 1969  whilst I was serving in the Royal Navy at HMS TERROR.  Both my Sister Dawn and Brother Paul went to school at CHANGI.

Many happy hours were  spent at the CHANGI club, beach and swimming pool amongst others; they really were great days!

I have forwarded these pictures on so your members can see your Association Wreath in situ at KRANJI earlier this year. Also that some of your older members may remember my father who last served at LYNEHAM and BRIZE before retiring as the Mess Manager at RAF Hospital WROUGHTON,  another sad loss being a Medic myself.

IAN D. WATTLEY
