This year’s Reunion took place over the weekend of the 8th – 11th May and was again held at the Tillington Hall Hotel, Stafford. The general format was as usual, with the Gala Dinner on the Saturday night and the AGM on the Sunday morning.
A major difference this year, however, was that any members who booked after about the end of January found themselves staying in a different hotel nine miles away in Penkridge.
The problem was that another association (also RAF, as it happened) were holding their reunion the same weekend as us, and the hotel didn’t have enough rooms for both of us.
The bus that was hired for our two trips was used to ferry our members and their guests between the two hotels.
Our Association Chairman John Dicks assured us at the dinner and at the AGM that this would never happen again.
John presented the Chairman’s Cup to our Press and Publicity Officer Brian Lloyd in recognition of the work he has done, and indeed continues to do, for the Association.
The after-dinner raffle was a great success, as usual. In fact, it was such a success that we ran out of tickets just before dinner! Our thanks to Pat Holt for all the work she put into buying all the prizes throughout the year at the best prices, and thanks also to those members who contributed prizes on the night.
A total of 119 people attended, and those who chose to were able to go on excursions to Blists Hill Victorian Village on the Saturday and the Churnet Valley Railway on Sunday after the AGM.
To all those who came, and indeed to those who didn’t come, please make a note in your diaries that next year’s reunion will be on the weekend of the 6th – 9th May and will once again be held at the Tillington Hall Hotel. We have been assured that we will be the only organisation there at that time, so there will be no repeat of this year’s problems.
