I remember the Pasir Ris Hotel well. We spent a fortnight there in early November 1964, before moving to Opera Estate, Bedok. I revisited Singapore in March 1991 and sadly the hotel was no more, unlike the Cameron Hotel (“since 1956”), the alternative short-term accommodation for UK service families (predominantly RAF) newly arrived to the island. The hotel was demolished in 1984. The differences in character of the two hotels could not be more stark, the colonial architecture of the former versus the unremarkable and utilitarian look of the latter.
